I was looking at our company's fitness web page a few weeks ago. You can join a fitness team, and log your activity. One team's goal was to walk a million steps in 2012.
I thought about this a little, and it's really not that hard. 1 mile can be walked in 2000-2500 steps, depending on your stride length. So, taking the average of 2250 steps, you would have to walk about 444 miles to achieve your goal. That's only about a mile and a quarter a day.
You trail runners can do your own math!
I estimate I hiked roughly 200 miles this year so far. My stride is on the long side, so that gives me 400,000 steps. I'm getting there!
Has anyone else ever thought about this? I realize it might seem like an arbitrary number, but it's good to have goals.
I did a quick Google search, and saw there is a meetup group in Massachusetts that has this as a challenge as well.
Step away!
