Took a solo hike out to Thoreau Falls, but it turned out Henry was with me the whole way.

Great story and reminder that i want to make the same trek. Heard last year about some bees being a problem along there at some point.

Sounds like a nice day out.

...Heard last year about some bees being a problem along there at some point.

The hornet's nest last fall was down the trail on the other side of the falls if you're coming from Ethan Pond trail. Stung me twice on the noggin'!!

If interested, I took a video that day with the falls raging pretty good. It rained hard all night on me camped near Shoal Pond. Next morning, I had already scrapped my plans of Shoal Pond trail south because of certain high water and bottomless mud. And after seeing the North Fork's flow at the AT bridge, I immediately abandoned hope of a crossing at the falls and bushwhacked along the south side of the river to that point. I had to get to the bridge on Thoreau Falls trail to get over the East Branch and back to Lincoln Woods, fording sizable streams was out.

High water or not, the falls are certainly a great spot in the woods and worth it as a stand-alone destination.
