The Jewell trail is in great condition all the way to the top. There is a lot of rock hopping above the tree line but nothing difficult.
There is some water on the Crawford Path from Washington down to Lakes of the Clouds but nothing extreme.
The Ammonousuc trail is fairly dry. The various stream crossings were easily done. On the entire loop there was not one blowdown.
If you haven't done the trail before, from the Gem pool to the hut it is very steep. If you're not used to that type of trail it could be a bit intimidating going down, in which case it might be better to reverse the loop by going up Ammonoosuc.
Kudos to my Asolo Fugitive boots which gripped so well on the rock slabs that it was almost eerie.
I hadn't been on Washington since last summer and as I sat eating my lunch, despite the crowd of people, the place seem strangely peaceful. I suddenly realized it was the lack of noise. The generators I was so used to hearing were silent. A great improvement!
This was without a doubt the greatest day I ever spent on the top. The temps were perfect and the views incredible. There was no wind at all. What a day!!!
