Conditions: bare ground to the point at ~1.4 mi. where the terrain transitions from mostly open hardwood to evergreen and the trail begins its slab around the west side of Starr King; then its well packed & frozen trail all the way to the Waumbek summit.
Gear: bare-boot to the 1.4 point, micros to Starr King, snowshoes for the mile to Waumbek --- the Tuesday rain had sufficiently softened the packed trail between SK & Waum. to make it a bit punchy.
Other: great blue sky views and a whole lot of fresh/recent moose sign around the Waumbek summit --- didn't see any of the big critters but my Retrievers had lots of scent and excitement while at the summit area.
