Mounts Starr King and Waumbek on 25 November 2017
Trails: Starr King Trail
Conditions: Lower half of the trail was a mix of mud and dry with little or no ice. Upper half of trail had increasing ice with a minimal of snow cover. Blowdowns were not an issue.
Special Equipment: Light traction was pretty helpful on the upper half of the hike. People were bare booting but it was costing them time on the descent on the icier sections. Blaze orange to appear less deer-like.
Comments: A beautiful day with oddly warm temperatures. Great views from the "new" outlook on Starr King and from the lookout past the Waumbek summit. The chimney remains intact. What I recall once thinking was a fairly remote hike some 20 years ago was the place to be today. Looking for a space in the lot, I felt like I was late to the party. 19 cars in the upper lot when I left. Great day to be out and lots of happy hikers enjoying it.
**spotted in lot: one VFTT bumpah stickah**
