Trail Conditions: a couple of inches of loose snow down below with a few icy spots. Once into the hardwood section of the climb the snow depths were 3-5 inches with higher amounts up high. Some sections of frozen mud and some hard ice under the snow between Starr King and Waumbek. One large blowdown along the ridge has an easy walk around.
Upper parking lot was usuable though not plowed...pushed one car out of the winter lot though 4 wheel drive worked fine for the rest.
Equipment: about half the group wore microspikes for descent but barebooters did fine. Chilly today ..winter coming along..
Comments: Congrats to Jeremy Clark as he finishes first round of the grid. The group today was 33 ...with 4 previous grid members, Jim, Guy, Peter, and Hiker Ed making the trek. Several dogs added to the day. REally a nice day in the woods with good conversation..light snow flurries all along the way..very little wind..We forsook the usual pizza at the Irving and settled on celebratory burgers etc at Woodstock Station..nice day out
