Jan 19 2008 - A magnificent day in the mountains, clear skies, stunning views in all directions with only Washington hidden, the only real wind at the top of Jackson, where we and the many other hikers stopping for lunch were beset by the gray jays who weren't content with feeding from hands, but also tried to steal whole sandwiches.

Trail conditions: Packed snow from a steady stream of hikers since the last storm doing the loop of these two peaks. There were icy spots where we had to step carefully, but the only real difficult spot was the first 50 yards down from the summit of Jackson, where care was needed. Crampons might have helped, but weren't necessary. On some of the steeper downhill stretches we did butt slides, sometimes not intentional. Enjoy it!

Equipment: snowshoes were all we needed, with traction built in. Small disk sleds would have been a great addition, for all the downhill sections we did on our butts.
