On Monday June 1st we did a 6.3 mile circuit hike from Bubble Pond trail head up the West Face of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park.

Taking the steepest and shortest trail to the summit required an elevation gain of 1,100 feet in one mile, with slippery moss covered rock and spectacular views west towards Sargent mountain.

Nearing the junction of the West Face trail and the Cadillac South Ridge trail we met four gentlemen coming down who told us that one woman in their party was blown over by the gusty winds. We warned them of the slippery conditions ahead.
Winds along the South Ridge trail were gusting up to 20 - 30 mph. We reached the summit of Cadillac Mountain, where we were greeted by tourists and spectacular views of the ocean.

Deciding to avoid descending the West Face trail we opted to take the South Ridge trail down to the Pond trail.

At the junction of to the Pond trail there is a little pond called the Feather bed.

Descending the Pond trail proved to also be a challenge with loose rock and steep pitches.

Here’s a picture looking back towards the south ridge of Cadillac mountain.

Options at this point were to finish the circuit via Pemetic Mountain trail or the less challenging carriage road.

We decided on the more leisurely way (on the carriage road) brushing along side of Bubble Pond and leading us back to our starting point.

Nice TR and photos. We love hiking in Acadia and can't wait to get back there.
