What a morning!
Met Cold Feet down at the mouth of the Nissequogue yesterday and went out for a couple of hours in the Tempests. No pun intended...the winds were WILD! There was a small craft advisory yesterday on the Sound with gusts up to 40mph. Inside the river, conditions weren't like the Sound but still real windy!!! Lots of white caps and strong gusts. Looking out into the Sound, the waves were breaking all over. With confidence, we'll be breaking through them in no time!!!

We left from the docks and headed up stream for about an hour with the winds comfortably at our backs not spinning us around. As soon as we turned around though, we got hit with the wind. Good exercise and a good taste of paddling again as it's been a while since I was out.

We stopped to have some coffee/soup along the shore (thermoses are great!) and headed back into the wind for the final stretch back to the cars.
It was a great paddle and looking forward to paddling with CF again!!!

Actually went back to the Nissequogue that evening with my daughter to see what the NWS was talking about when they said "TIDES ARE
EXPECTED TO BE 2 FT BELOW MLLW DURING THE TIMES OF LOW TIDE."
Wow...talk about lower than normal low tides. The whole mouth of the river was exposed. There's supposed to be a near eclipsing of the moon so that is why the tides were so low. Somewhere though, the tides are extra high!!! I'll try to attach some pictures of the low tides.

Be well.

Thx IC for the intro to winter kayaking.....my legs are a lot more sore than my upper body....I learned quit a few things and the "experience" was the most important....Going upstream with the wind pushing us was pretty cool but I knew that eventually we were going to head back into it, and when we did, WHAM! The winds were so bad at times I just gave into them and let my boat turn back around and paddled back to the shore. It was at that time I knew that it was going to take all of my strength to paddle along the shore and pick the right moment to cross over.....which happened after a good warm soup and rest.....I wasn't wearing a drysuit and had just worn a farmer john with layers of fleece, my body was warm except for my hands, they were getting really cold.....

As we were returning it was pretty cool to see Chris's family waving to him from the beach, I was glad to be back on shore since I was tired both physically and mentally....The views above were very nice of the LI sound and it was very clear to see Conn. on the other side....

I did go south with my daughter later on that afternoon to Jones Beach on east coast (Atlantic ocean), the waves were huge and we fought our way through the 30mph winds for a 2 mile health walk...coming back the winds were pushing us real fast...

I had a great day yesterday but I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have gone out without a dry suit....had the itch to go out and finally try all of the stuff i bought, including the boat.....will wait a little longer to get out again..tha again IC.....

will put up pics soon..

Hi Tony, yea it was fun....I mentioned your name and Jim's and talked about a Catskill or ADK trip when the weather is warmer.....went back out today for a bike/walk along the beach....trying to get below the 215 mark....my family's not happy because I decided not to shave until I get below 210lbs...could take a good 3 more weeks, if I don't cheat....so how long has it been since u shaved?....getting my shovel and salt ready for tomorrow...have fun...

I saw the post and figured that it was the first you had put in... I was laughing thinking that maybe you messed you pants with that kind of wind and cold. That's really not what yaking is typically about... but having a wet-suit is a wonderful "necessity"

Congrats on getting out and learning what it's like and knowing that a head-on wind is just a barrel of fun heading back! :D

Hi bubba, that wind sucked the strength out of me...it was a real workout....this new hobby will probably turn me into "Arnold".....and I couldn't take the itching from the beard, I gave in and shaved.....on a side note, i went for a 2 hour snowshoe hike this afternoon, it's been almost 1 year since I've done that...it was starting to drizzle and the snow was heavy, but I pushed myself to try and burn more calories...my knees aren't killing me, i'm hoping the weight loss will get me into AJTIV or JayH shape... :D today's megamillions is 270!...I'm in...and if I win...NY bagles for everyone on VFTT!

Oh man, David you shaved? I was curious to see you at the dinner and see if it was still growing! A few winters back I let mine grow longer than usual, a regular Grizzly Adams beard. To my surprise, my wife liked it! Said it was nicer and softer. Now that it's getting grayer and whiter, I should get a red hat and let it grow so more.

Good for them, bummer for us, I was trying to figure out what type of u- haul to drive with a few thousand bagels in it....but at least there was a dream....I didn't really know how many states were involved in it...gotta start the new dream for this week....have a great week...

Tony, my wife made me an offer i couldn't refuse :D FOOD!
