I know, I know...I'm early but I'm starting to make plans for the FTFC banquet in April and could not help but notice by checking the maps that Stratham seems to be a fairly small town (not that there's anything wrong with that).

For the people who attend these events, where do you typically stay and most importantly where do you party after the banquet (since there's no alcohol on the premises)? :D

Well, not sure on where you would stay, but if you take 108 South into downtown Exeter, there is a cool little bar called The Tavern right on Main St. Its a basement bar with good beer and suprisingly good food. There are probably a few motels on 108 right near the 101 interchange as well. If you want to go a little further away, Portsmouth is right down 33, with PLENTY of good eating and drinking establishments.

Come to the Olde Port!

You are only 15 min from Portsmouth NH, a town know for its great restaurents and night life. The downtown area is quite compact and easily walked end-to-end in 5 minutes. I'd suggest you make the trip there.

It offers:

For live music:
* Press Room (rock, etc.)
* Muddy River Smoke House (usually blues)

For huge selection of Brit beers (including drawn)
* Coat of Arms Pub

For an Irish pub setting
* Molly Malone's
* Jack Quigley's

For an American tavern
*Daniel Street Tavern

For a late-night burger or doggies on a plate of reds
*Gilleys (Definetly an experience after 1 AM!)

For late-night Mex takeout
* Dos Amigos Burritos

Feel free to e-mail me with questions,

cb

Motel 6 near the Portsmouth circle has current winter rates of $44.99 per room. Durham has a few pizza-bars but no accommodations to speak of. Well, none at this price. Portsmouth is where it's at for the night scene and reasonably-priced motels.

bring a tent

It may be a little damp in April, but if you bring a tent, you could camp in Pawtuckaway State Park (legally) which is about 20 minutes away, or in the Henderson-Swasey Town Forest (semi-legally) which is about 5 minutes away. I say save the $45 and rough it!

The Loaf & Ladle in nearby downtown Exeter has good soups/sandwiches/fresh bread for low dough and they'll pour you a pint of Guinness or Sam Adams if you ask nicely. Stratham has no night-life to speak of, but Portsmouth should keep you busy. Say hi to Jim (the hiker-friendly bartender) at the Rusty Hammer while chomping on their Wimpy Burger, or savor the pulled pork sandwich at the Muddy River Smokehouse... 2 treats not to be missed! :D

What is this FTFC conference?

Looks like Portsmouth will be the place.

Thanks all for the information.

Albee, the FTFC is the AMC's Four Thousand Footer Club and they hold their annual meeting every April. There's a pizza dinner and then a presentation of awards for the people who completed one or all of the following: NH48, NE67, NEHH and Northeast 111 lists.

It's up to an outrageous $52.99 per night, including Microwave and refrigerator!

:)

I booked a room for Saturday. Thanks for the reference.

portsmouth is the best place for food and lodging by far.

I am planning the pre-dinner hike and the post dinner party :D

The Brewery Lane Tavern is the official Pub of our Rugby Team (Seacoast Rugby) so there is always alot of excitement there.
