trails: logging/atv road, herdpaths, bushwack

conditions: see snow mountain report for driving info. from cupsuptic snow we drove back down wiggle brook road to bear brook road which we drove until it turned to grass. bear brook road had one or two rough spots, but again would be passable by car. we continued up the road on foot and the walking was nice up to a shoulder on whitecap. from there a well marked and obvious herd path led to the summit canister and sign. we doubled back down the road to the col between whitecap and north kennebago where there is a herd path that doesn't really lead in the right direction. we took a bearing on nkd and once on the ascent of the ridge found the herd path which led to the summit which has a canister and sign. doubling back down the herd path towards the col we took a right onto another herd path around 3400 which was obscure in spots, but eventually dumped us back on the original road we followed from the truck.
after this hike we drove out to route 16 via lincoln pond road and morton cutoff which are both in good shape. lincoln pond particularly smooth.

equipment: navigational tools of choice

comments: second hike of the day. nice walk to whitecap. a bit of route finding up and down from north kennebago. pretty cold and windy up on the ridge line. a bit of a view back to whitecap from up on north kennebago. pretty woods. great info. for this hike at franklinsites.com and in various reports on this site.
