We parked at the end of Belknap Mt. Rd. and went first up Whiteface. Up on the top of that wide open peak with its great views we fairly quickly found the geocache. The coordinates are spot on.
After signing the log book we headed back down and over to Piper. Piper has a very large top again with open views. At the summit there are a variety of interesting rock formations that have been put together by folks such as the throne that sits on the very top. We searched for some time but could not find the geocache. I highly suspect that it is MIA.
We took the Orange trail from there and connected with the white trail to go up Belknap. Talked with TrailwrightBratt who is the fire warden on Belknap then headed down to the site of the plane crash. It's an awesome site and always gives me chills. That pilot never knew what hit him. I'm sure some souvenirs have been taken over the years but the wreckage is still pretty much there. We very easily found the cache that was placed there. No GPS is neaded to find that cache. The log book has an unusually high number of signatures. We took a trackable from the cache which we will take south with us this summer and place it in a cache somewhere down there.
The trails are in great condition, especially the Orange trail--kudos, nary a stepover the entire day. The trails are also bone dry, no snow, ice or mud. Be sure to bring a lot of water for your dog. Lauky drank all that I had brought with me for him.
We didn't encounter any bugs-not even any ticks. I think the drought got to them.
