Trail Conditions: This trail was buried in deep powder today, ranging from knee high to nearly waist deep. This, combined with the incredibly steep terrain, made for slow going up high. No one reached the summit today, but we all came very close (within a half-mile of the south peak). Trail blazes were still visible above the snow pack at that elevation, but just barely.

There were also two people headed up Passaconaway today for an out and back trip, but I don't know if they made the summit.

Equipment: Snowshoes are essential. I also carried one hiking pole, and found it very helpful when climbing up the steepest sections of this trail. By planting the pole firmly in front of me with both hands, I could use it to support my weight when stepping.
