Donna & I left home just about 7 am. She left me @ the trailhead and headed off to XC Ski @ Great Glen Trails.
Having read several reports about going up the Wildcat Ridge Trail I was expecting it to be very steep and possibly need crampons...so I brought my virgin ones along for the 1st time. Started up 19 Mile Brook Trail @ 10:39. Part way up I met a woman coming down. She had come up to 'D' and across the ridge and said it was in good shape! As usual the 19 MBT was a packed out highway. The weather was great today!
I paused @ the top of the notch to get some pictures and enjoy the day...wondering what might lay ahead!? As usual I wore my snowshoes and used poles from the start. As I crossed and started up the trail the 1st thing I noticed was a lot of branches "in your face"...not a problem just a bit of a nuisance! The trail was very well packed and was a bit steep in spots by not bad @ all! Interesting how each person views things differently
When I got to the slide I was surprised @ how small it was...about 30' across and 150' long(+/-). It was easily crossed, but with care, as a fall there could be "bad"! I thought the trail was pretty neat!
Arriving @ the top I met 2 guys that had spent the night in the Carter Notch Hut. They were headed over to 'D', then would spend the night @ the Hut again before heading out.
I continued down the trail until it started to drop off to make sure I was @ the top. Came back and went into the woods to the "summit" and one of the guys took a picture for me. I took more pictures from the view point then headed back down.
Decided to go see the hut, as I was a bit ahead of schedule. Crossed the ponds and ate by the hut. Headed out @ 1:51 pm.
There were snowshoe tracks across the Aquaduct by didn't continue up on the other side.
Donna was waiting @ the trailhead when I arrived @ 3:04 It was a very enjoyable day and I was up to 55 on the NE 100 Winter list
We were staying over in Twin Mtn tonight and I was going to "attempt" Mt Jefferson + tomorrow(yikes!!), while Donna would ski the Bretton Woods Trails.
What a wonderful day we had both had today!!! Amazing weather Truly feel blessed
