The 19 mile trail is in good condition. All the major streams are bridged so no worry about crossings even in the rain. No blowdowns. Relatively little mud up to Wildcat Ridge trail. Water was running on the trail in a couple of places but it wasn't particularly soft. This is a trail with a steady, easy grade and very few level areas so there isn't much place for mud to accumulate.

From the intersection with Wildcat Ridge to the hut there is some mud in places. The other times I had done Wildcat A I had come from D and had never taken this trail. The trail is steep but actually not as bad as I had envisioned from some trail reports. There is a regular use of switchbacks which eases the climb. The trail is mostly rock, and the rocks were all wet today so care had to be taken not to slip. I had read so much about the slide this past winter I had visions of something quite different than what I found. It presents no difficulty in the summer and is very quickly crossed. The summit was very muddy. There was something close to a swimming pool at the viewpoint. The other two times I was up there I hadn't noticed the short herd trail up to the top of a small nub which no doubt is the high point. Anyway, I did it this time.

I saw my first kilt on the trail today. The bearer was heavily bearded so there was no question about it being a skirt.

Lauky's first 4000 footer was Wildcat D back in January. It was a time when the trail across was impassible due to the depth of the snow. Now some some 20 4000 footers latter he finally bagged Wildcat A. :)
