How much is it to stay at the Hut in between the Wildcats and Carters? and also, are there any campsites before it?

Carter Notch Hut, like all the AMC huts, runs roughly $100/night, but it changes depending on which day you are looking for. Which way are you headed? There's not much terrain suitable for camping in either direction along the AT, but there are sites once you get past 1/4 mile down the Wildcat River Trail (?).

IIRC, there was an established, hardened site on the Wildcard River Trail a but past the Ramparts spur. I think it's within the 1/4 mile, so it might be technically illegal (not 100%, but I recall thinking that it was probably popular with thru-hikers). After that site, it drops off pretty steeply, so it might be difficult to find one without going down a few hundred vertical feet to where it levels off again.

re Wildcats and Carters

We are going up Wildcat A and over...hoping to camp somewhere at the bottom and then do Carter Dome and the Carters and head out the next day.

There were people setting up tents in Carter Notch, right next to the trail at the base of Wildcat A, when I was there last September. I should probably have said something, but didn’t.

Now I am reminded that there was a pile of lumber — with bright orange tape around it — near the base of Mount Hight a couple of weeks ago. Don’t know what that would be about; the signs say no camping is allowed in that area.

Right along Carter Dome Trail, the Mount Hight Bypass section.

I passed through here a couple weeks ago on Wildcat River trail. The campsite in question is literally 10 feet outside the 1\4 mile FPA below Carter Notch, so it is legal. Pretty decent flat area among the trees, not a bad option.
