Date of Hike: Fri. 02-05-10
Trails: Polecat Ski Trail, Wildcat Ridge, 19 Mile Brook Trail
Up the Ski Tr. which was groomed styrofoam. Snow shoes with televators worked great. The ridge was drifted over but solid base for easy breaking. One crawl under blow down and a few walk arounds and step overs.
Steeps off of "A" were soft, loose, and slippery. Butt sliding was a good choice in sections. At the 90 degree turn some people went straight up the gulley. So there are two tracks. Take the sharp turn for the switchbacks.
Some of us bare booted for the walk out on 19 mile brook trail, which was hard with a very rough frozen post-holed surface. I wore my new "Hill Sound Trail Crampons", which are similar to Micro-Spikes, but a little bit more aggressive. They worked great.
Great day hiking with Bill Marcotte and Donna Dobbins today. And nice meeting Irene and Bob on the trail.
Cold and windy but plenty of sunshine.
