Trail Conditions: Polecat Trail snow covered with some icy spots down below..heavy duty snowmaking going on today. Once above 3000 feet or so natural snow increased and we had a beautiful groomed trail to ascend. Some icy spots. Wildcat Ridge Trail ..Section from D to the col had some ice but snow covered and fairly good going. Very icy section over to C but most of the trail was snow covered and easy going someone had been with snowshoes yesterday I guess. Brushy in places around C but most of trail in good shape.
Equipment: microspikes were perfect today
Comments: Glorious day...20 degrees ..no wind. Nice dry snow. We had snowshoes crampons and spikes today and while there are some impressive icy spots they were grainy enough that we comfortably had spikes on the whole day. Not really enough snow for snowshoes except in the area of the howling snowguns on lower Polecat. We varied the route a little and took bushwack off the ski trail to avoid D and expected ice on way out choosing to climb up that section below the tower on return and that worked out fine.
