Dick, Jo, Bookah and I started from the Slide Mt parking area, walked the road for 2 minutes and then jumped into the bushwhack just before the private property boundary. We had open woods all the way to the ridge top, and followed the ridge right to the summit. After a thorough 'investigation' of all the possible high points, we enjoys a nice lunch in an open grassy area surrounded with Stonehenge like boulders. No spruce trees allowed some views along the way up and off the top. Very interesting summit with stunted hardwoods and the rocks.
We then tossed around whether to head straight back to the car and drive up to Delaware County to pick off another HH. Or, travel the ridge and go grab Hemlock. With the long drive elsewhere, the Hemlock's carried the day and off we headed up to Hemlock's wooded summit as well. We circled back under Hemlock's small cliff band band, back to the col for a bushwhack thru open woods and came out, as planned, directly across the road from where we parked.
Although we carried Stablicers and snowshoes all day, neither were needed. Only a few remnants on Winni, and just a little more on Hemlock.
Although the woods were easily to move thru, the amount of devastation up high and on the ridges and summits was awesome. Whole areas of blown down treetops and trees snapped off. While not difficult by ADK bushwhacking standards, the newly downfallen trees did add some manuvering time to the day.
On top of it all, the weather gods smiled on us all day.
No field mice for Bookah, but she picked up one more HH and added another map-summit peak.
Nice moutains, nice weather and nice company. Who could ask for more?
