Well this morning when I went out to start the car, I looked to the east, and there looming over me was Washington, Jefferson and Adams. The sun was not quite up yet, but the red was shining behind the white caps. As I drove down Rt. 142 and looking out the window at Lafayette and Garfield, I thought my gear is ready, where is the snow? I am ready for another full winter of climbing/backpacking. Then I realized how fortunate I am living EXACTLY where I want to! Think about for a second, Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule) blarring on the radio driving through Franconia Notch (I drive I do every day). My Christmas is every day!

Happy Holidays

see ya on the trails.

For the last 20+ years my wife and I have dreamed of moving or retiring to NH. A series of circumstances and fortuitous timing 11 years ago placed us in the unique position of acquiring my wife’s grandparent’s home in Thornton, NH as a vacation home. Another series of circumstances just recently, coupled with a job realignment in August, has hastened my departure from CT.

As I type this, I can look out my window at Lamson Library and see Welsh/Dickey and Osceola. Each night during my drive home I can see the Franconia Ridge off in the distance as I head for my little house in the woods.

Even though the change from CT to NH has been significant, both logistically and culturally, I have come to realize that this is where I was meant to be.

With a lack of snow, now may be a good time to get a bushwhack or "far out" backwoods adventure peak that you've been thinking about .... and get winter credit as well.

Or in the case of tomorrow walk around in the freezing rain all day :( - yeah, I'll be there.....
