Winter nh 48 canine finishers

Kali and I completed a full winter pemi loop of the 9 peaks(flume, liberty, lincoln, lafayette, garfield, south twin, west bond, bond and bondcliffs) March 8th. The miles and peaks were not an issue for Kali, she has been doing 50 mile weekends for a long time so this was just compacted into one hike 32.5 miles. We were joined by Alton and Cole, Cory and Mike. It was an epic adventure and one I am very proud of. Kali is a wonderful trail companion and one heck of a strong girl.

When it comes to the Pemi loop I would say that it's impressive not only for her, which it most certainly is, but also for you. Congratulations to both of you.

Doggone! this has been a fun thread. I don't own a dog but, like many, do love them (along with cats, horses, ungulates and all other mammals ... so don't let it go to their heads) and enjoyed the photos.

My mind fetched a story I recently read about Wyoming outlaws. One, Henry Mosier, had a Newfoundland named "Tip". Mosier went on a crime spree that included at least one brutal murder. Tip remained loyal throughout but did not interfere when a crowd broke him out of a Cheyenne jail and lynched him in 1883. No mention of whether Tip went on trial.

It was a Newfoundland, Seaman, that accompanied the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Seaman is mentioned at length in their journals and Lewis received many generous, but futile, offers for an exchange from the Indians they met along the way. Is it possible these canine finishers will follow in their peoples' heels and post their own reports?

That's great, congratulations to Kali and to Heather. From what I saw on your other post, Tim, that was one impressive marathon that was done to finish up. As you mentioned, elsewhere, Kali now joins Pepper as the only two dogs to do the grid. I guess it's time for Kali to finish up her redlining now. Whatever you do Heather and Kali I wish you all the best.

Think you have inadvertently deleted Atticus' name from the list. Wasn't he #2?

I did not know that and since the date was still posted, I thought it was just a mistake. Would it be a breach of confidentiality to disclose the reason? Following Atticus is a terrific little book about an amazing little dog.

Thank you so kindly. Hiking with Kali is a gift I don't ever take for granted. She is my heart and soul and I am so proud of her. I got a dog because my daughter was getting older and I needed a companion. Never in a million years did I know what waited for me around that corner. This weekend on a Moriah-Carters-Cats traverse, that old dog (8 in October!) learned a new trick. She can now eat watermelon off the rind.

We love the White Mountains and will continue to hike as much as we can together! Thank you all for the support on here. It makes a big difference.

Winter is just around the corner, well Monday evening at 11:48 PM to be precise, so I'm giving this thread a bump. This is just a reminder for those who hike with their canine companions that we are anticipating the names of any new winter NH 48 finishers.
