The Green Mountain Club is hosting its annual Winter Trails Festival Feburary 1, 2014. My family and I went to this last year, and it was great fun! This is an all day event held at the Green Mountain Club Headquarters in Waterbury, VT. There are little hikes on location and "real" hikes short drives away. We did only the on location activities last year and were busy all day. Our daughter loved it (age 3 at the time). Come snowshoe, hike, xc ski, or hang out for the activities and presentations at the cabin. Plenty for all ages to do and a fun way to support the club the protects Vermont's hiking trails.
Here is the info from the GMC website:
The Green Mountain Club's 18th annual event not only features guided hikes on snowshoes or other winter traction, but includes crafts for kids, dog sleds, nature walks, a bonfire, an "apres hike party", and much more.
Doors open at 8:30am and hikes gather and leave between 9:30 and noon. There are also tons of non-hiking fun for people of all ages all day long. Hikes return in time for music and refreshments at 3pm. Admittance is $8 for members and $10 for non-members, children under 12 get in for free.
Proceeds from this event and GMC membership go to support the Long Trail and other Vermont hiking experiences.

This winter the club will also release our new winter hikes guidebook, a great way to take the fun and adventure of this event home with you.
