Trails: Wonalancet Range, Walden, Old Mast Road (loop)

Date of Hike: Wednesday 8/20/08

Trail Conditions: Mostly dry on Wed. The Walden Trail lives up to its repuation as scenic and steep. Some of the steps are covered with gravel from all of the rains.

Special Equipment Required: Poles.

Comments: We chose this hike because we wanted great views and only had limited time between chores/appointments. Agree with Tom (Tom and Atticus - who posted a wonderful trip report) that this scenic trail is pretty steep for the "little" mountain it is. We climbed up to the Walden Trail for additional views and descended the dozens of legendary rock steps and then skipped down the knee-saving Old Mast Road. Steve Smith also wrote about Mt Wonalancet in yesterday's Mtn. Ear. There is a viewpoint on Mt Hibbard where you can see Squam, Winne, and Ossipee.
