Finally after the third attempt we managed to reach the summit of Marshall. The last attempt was in February during the special day in honour of Dominic. But we had received 2 feet of snow just before the event. Yesterday, it was not the case, it was hot and humid.
Following the suggestion of JoeCedard, when we met him on Seymour, two weeks ago, I decided to Marshall from the Loj by Indian Pass trail and the trail between the Indian Pass and Lake Colden. This trail is between Iroquois and the herdpath is only 1km to the top of Marshall.
We left the Loj without having put Deet or other similar products. No sign of black flies or mosquitoes. Initially, the sky was mostly cloudy and quite foggy. The walk on the Indian Pass is very easy and very fast. From the intersection of IP to Lake Colden, we follow and cross several times the Cold Brook. You must be very careful and follow the trail markers. At one point I followed what I thought the trail and I finaly did not know where to go. It was impossible to continue! After several minutes of research, we go back on our steps and I saw a marker on the other side of the brook, Ouff! Well, now we are searching of the cairn who marking the beginning of herdpath to Marshall. Easy, very easy to find, but we must be careful. The HP is narrow in several places but easy to follow. Just before reaching the summit, we are lost again. There is a high rock surface on our right need to be climb and we continued straight. We will see that on our way back. Finally we did a little Bushwalk and I reached a trail that I was believed to be ours, but it was the Herbert Brook HP. We finally reach the summit, WhooooHoooo!! Marshall # 44 there were only 2. As soon as we arrived, the sky was covered and immediately after the official photos, the shower. Wow! it is so good. After we sweated a lot, because of the heat and humidity, this shower is very refreshing. It rained about 30 minutes and then the air was drier after and it was very good.
After discussion with my partner, Annie, we or she decided to go back by the same path in the opposite direction and not do a loop through Lake Colden.
The day was almost perfect, even with this rain. We had several sun rays before noon, and mostly sunny in the afternoon. But I thought I will report you that we did not had any flies, but.... no. Coming back on the Indian Pass, they were there waiting for us. Probably they were aware of our success and they wanted to celebrate with us. We did not needed their love demonstration to us. But we have convinced them, after an hour, to go elsewhere. But that bugs attack, had nothing comparable with the one we had on Seymour 2 weeks ago.
Now our next goal, Allen.
