On sunday May 13th I had another incredible day in the Daks. This time
with the sunny day helping me, I decided to try so summit Algonquin and
Colden in the same day. I had that hike in mind since a long time. I started
early (5:15) from the Loj and went in direction of Algonquin. I past one hiker
before the Algonquin junction (not the only Earlydird) and another a bit after
the junction. No snow until about 3000-3500 feet of elevation. Before Wright
junction I put my stabilizer and went up easily. At Wright junction I decided
to go for Wright peak and summit it before 7:00 am. I went down fast and
went up for Algonquin. I past the same hiker another time in one of the steep
slope before treeline. At the summit the view was great but it was cold with
the wind so I don't stop for long and went to Iroquois. More snow near iroquois so I leave the path and hike in the snow that was hard packed.
After had summit Iroquois I make a fun bushwack to lake colden in lots of
hard snow (not much post hold). I was at the lake at 10:00 and follow the
trail until the junction for Colden. It was my first time in the Colden trail from
lake colden. Lots of ice on the rocks but I was fine in stabilizer. I was at the
summit at 12:20 and at the exact same time that my friend Robert-Marie-
Marc Antoine (they came by lake Arnold side).
Very impressive view again. :) :) :)

I guess you know there is a trail down from the A-I saddle to Lake Colden???

Ooh, that trail is steep and rocky. I went down it two summers ago and my knees still haven't forgiven me.

Nice trip, Rejean... what, no Marcy this time? :D

Time to Add Marshall, or Tabletop?

Hmmmm... since you summited Colden at 12pm, if you were willing to return to your car w/ a headlamp on, there would've been time to add in Marshall & Tabletop, too.

I know, I know, Rejean is a rabbit- but w/ an early start like him & decent conditioning & gear, it doesn't look impossible.

Thanks for a good TR!

Good point Albee, it is easier for the knee to go down in the bushwack
then to follow the trail. And it is shorter, no hard section.

Before Colden I think on doing Marcy to but it would had been a very
long hike (another 8-9 miles).
