As I have done for years, a quick ski in to Zealand Hut for lunch on the porch was yesterday's constitutional for this old man.

The Zealand road is plowed over its paved portion for logging again. The upper, unpaved portion is unplowed and nicely skiable. The trail from the parking lot at the trailhead is not prime as there are lots of open rivulets and step across gullies. There is only one place where the skis really must come off to rock hop. For those wanting to bypass the plowed section, the Spruce Goose trail from the hill by the entrance is barely broken out through the camp ground, but not from there on to the Hale trail, nor through to the Zealand trailhead. The winter bypass at the start of the Z trail has not been packed out yet. Hopefully there will be another foot or more of snow coming to make the trail the joy it has been in years past. But it is still pretty early in the season.
