It was snowing with a stiff breeze on Mt. Ellen in VT yesterday and there was frost on the trees above 3,000. Quite beautiful! The trail itself was pretty much snow free except for some open spots. The observation deck near the summit was coated with rime.

Winter is here again...

I had 19 weekends of snow-free hiking this year. 4 and a half months without the white stuff. Granted, I didn't need snowshoes or anything yesterday, but man - that was a short season!
 
The snow line was pretty low in Baxter Sunday morning. The Daicey Pond Ranger said Chimney Pond was reporting 1.5" at 7:00. It was nice to see snow again...
