I was disappointed leaders canceled Saturday’s AMC BW hike to Whitewall Mt, so I hiked to Zealand Notch and went up Zeacliff via Twinway and down Zeacliff Trail. It was interesting to view the remarkable cliffs of Whitewall from atop Zeacliff and one hour later stand at the base and look up at the Whitewall's cliffs and stand amongst the massive accumulations of talus. Descending Zeacliff Trail in wet conditions was bit of a challenge. It has a couple of tricky spots. Thanks to my poles I managed to cross Whitewall Brook with my boots on and only got one foot slightly wet.

The rains held off for most part and I was treated to majestic cloud formations clustered around Carrigain Notch and Hancocks. Clouds made lighting difficult for pictures so my pictures don't really do them justice. I loved hiking the Zealand Trail with it's many bridges, water-crossings, beautiful clear running waters, and peaceful and tranquil beaver ponds. Zealand Trail was wet, but trail consists mostly gravel soils so there’s less mud-holes than one might think so I managed to keep my boots pretty dry considering how much rain this area received during the night and the many water-crossings. Bridges were also in good condition. Streamside brush was bent over indicating water levels had been much higher during the night during the height of the rains.
