Any feedback on mt Isolation and the Davis Path in terms of scenary, trail quality, and camping opportunities.
I am heading up with wife and dog this weekend. I wanted to go to the Zealand, Ethan Pond, Guyot area, but assume that whole area will be a zoo this weekend. Good assumption?

But, that’s the type of terrain I’m looking for as well as plenty of water sources for the pooch. Was also considering Carter area and Moosilauke which is closer to home.

Thanks for any reccs.

Camping around Moosilauke is somewhat difficult, since a huge chunk of the terrain is private land with no camping allowed. Your best bets are along the Benton trail about halfway down or at the Beaver Brook shelter. Jeffers Brook shelter is a nice place as well, plus it was my first construction project as an undergrad.

There is lots of great camping options in the Dry River. Along the Davis Path and Isolation trail there are several designated wilderness area campsites. On the Dry River trail there are lots of places to camp as well as the shelter site. You may well find solitude in there.

For similiar terrain, you may want to consider the trails leading out of York Pond to the Kilkenny ridge trail. Both the Unknown Pond Trail and the Mill Brook trails are old logging roads and follow streams. The surrounding woods are mixed softwoods and hardwoods. Rogers ledge and the Horn are both viable destinations (although your pooch may have a touhg time getting to the actual top of the horn). The KRT also follows a stream for most of the way in from South Pond.

This area is very underused and crowds are rarely an issue.

I was on Mt. Isolation last weekend. The views are beautiful. The section of the Davis Path that I used was in excellent condition, with evidence of recent maintenance.

I passed a really nice looking designated campsite on the west bank of the Dry River where the Mt. Eisenhower Trail crosses it. This is a ways from the Davis Path, but I am mentioning it because it caught my eye as a really attractive campsite.

Steve - Shhhhh, that site is a secret! I've stayed in that site twice and it is as good as it looks. Flat space, fire ring, and water within yards. Perfect!
