Trail Conditions: There was about 4" of new powder from start to finish. The road was well traveled but not packed. Zealand Trail about the same. Lend-a-Hand trail less used but well packed under the new snow. No problems with postholing. Hale Brook Trail had varying degress of crust and ice under the new snow.

Special Equipment Required: We all bare booted to the hut where two of us donned snowshoes. It was a toss up as to which was best until the Hale Brook Trail. The side slope traverses were quite slippery and we found better purchase with bare boots than with snow shoes. Crampons would be the best choice in those locations.

Comments: Nice day with pretty good trail conditions. Avery, the care-taker at Zealand Hut hiked with us over to Hale. It was great to see her again!
