  • hey there - we should be up north in aug - will drop a line... might take the little dude up welch dickey - see how that goes and then maybe peirce and see how it goes... not sure he is ready for a 4k-er - but he has surprised us before..
Thanks for the greenie Trish and Alex! And did I see Sage did a hike too! Oh my! I never have enough time to keep up with all these trip reports!
Naw - your response was great! And FWIW, it came off as very well thought out and rational. I'm just a little more accustomed to dealing with the troll types from Whiteblaze.net. :) And I agree, if anything, there are more females out there than ever, in part of what you talked about. Keep up the great posts - I enjoy reading your stuff.
I liked Steve's comments below..nice to hear your adventures with Alex..different than some of the humdrum here..Isolation was a great trip for you..I wonder if Alex will block it out as some pre teen trumatic experience.....thanks for the greenie..feeling pretty strong on the up hills though still a bit cautious on the downs..looking for those nice soft trails
No problem, thank you for the great TR! I think the next Booze & Vittles night will probably be July 10
Your TRs always remind me of the joy of hiking with family and friends. I love the references to Alex's trail games, her stories, her worries about slugs and such, as well as reading of your motherly concerns. They're such a sweet and welcome contrast to my TRs, which, because I almost always hike alone or with my dog, tend to be self-absorbed navel-gazers. Thank you for bringing a true and real sense of family to VFTT (and to your blog).
Thank you for the green square...it's a very unfortunate situation that appears to be showing fundamental flaws in non profit organizations caving to pressure from their donors. As far as I've seen/heard, no damage has been done to any land - however, there are a few very vocal folks who seem to be ruining an entire mountain range of hiking because they appear to be blinded by emotion. If they have an issue with people walking on their property, they're welcome to post it and stop taking the tax deduction. What a mess! I'm glad this is only confined to a small portion of the Ossipees and New Hampshire at this point.
I've lived in cities for all my adult life, and I feel the opposite -- living in the City isn't all its cracked up to be. Yes, there are Museums, but nothing a day trip can't show you. There's noise, and dirt, and people being more stand-offish, and very few trees and even fewer spots of grass. Air pollution, ridiculously priced homes, etc.

I agree that being able to spend a bit of time in the city each week is nice for the kids, since they have activities and friends here. For me personally, all I know is that each week I cannot wait to get to NH, and I hate coming back to Somerville.
thanks for the greenie! now..the next time you find yourself thinking about how much you dislike living in the GBA, take a walk at Prospect Hill Park!!
Believe me...I lived in the North Country (Vermont)...leaving the city and all its got to offer isn't what its all cracked up to be...you just might have the best situation right here, right now!
