Gore-tex PacLite vs Marmot Precip for winter hardshell ?

Really ?......I'll have to give it a try. I wasn't aware that Nikwax made a spray on. I tried another spray on brand once (Renew ??) and wasn't that thrilled with it.

Gore-tex PacLite vs Marmot Precip for winter hardshell ?

I do this regularly with great success using Nikwax wash-in products. In fact, I'm doing all my ski stuff today !! :) Maybe I'm cheap but I just haven't gotten to the point where I want to spend $700 or more on ski clothes every two years, when a little maintenance makes 'em last about six or...

New Warren Miller Film Out Soon

I agree. We have always had a "guys night out" to kind of build the stoke for the ski season by going to the annual Warren Miller showing, but we were disappointed in this one last year. Basically, we decided it would be cheaper and more fun to just watch a bunch of different ski movies at...

    The Pemi

Thanks for your insights. I was on the fence about doing it over 2 or 3 days......I think you convinced me three would be my best bet !

Mt Waumbek- Because it's on a list

You got the title of this thread right !!! I did this one with my Lab earlier in the summer on one of those hot, humid days.. Six hours of round trip driving from the Boston area, no views........like you said ..."its on the list" . Can't think of another reason to do it.

    Dog-Friendly Hikes

I just picked this book up. At a glance seems to be a pretty good supplement to the AMC book, as it has some dog specific info : http://www.amazon.com/Best-Hikes-Dogs-Hampshire-Vermont/dp/0898869889/sr=8-1/qid=1157416676/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-1962934-6439055?ie=UTF8&s=books

Patellar tendinitis, anyone have any experience with it?

I don't know if I'm breaking any interent forum etiquette, but here's a link to a ski forum discussion on this topic : http://www.telemarktalk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=23906&highlight=patellar+tendonitis

    Sugarloaf + CoP Snow = 67 = 87 (9/1/06)

FWIW...a better trail for hiking up the ski area side of Sugarloaf, IMO, is a trail labeled Binder on the trail map. The lower part is a machine access trail and is closed to skiing in the winter. Its mostly crushed rock and much narrower than the typical ski trails like Tote, but with similar...

Ugliest, scariest animal I've ever seen

If you read the article without looking at the picture, you might think it was a fisher cat based on the behavior, but it doesn't really look like one (at least the one's I've seen in the woods behind my house). It does look like some kind of mutant canine.

    Getting a new pack

My guess is the Baltero is probably the current season's "upgrade", replacing the Forester. I bought a Baltero in the spring, but haven't had a chance to use it on a 2 or 3 day trip yet.....looking forward to putting some mileage on it in September/October.

    Burnt Mountain

That's a very suitable hike for kids that age. Fairly easy and some nice views. I usually start at my condo, but you can park at Burnt Mt. Road, which is off of Mountainside Drive. Call Sugarloaf (207-237-2000) and ask for the Sugarloafer Shop....they have info on most of the summer activities...

Hillary rips climbers who left dying man

You really need to read The Climb to understand all the possibilities of what might have happened ....it will certainly make you pause about what the true story was. The author's climbing resume is very impressive especially when compared to Krakauer's, who's in the business of selling stories. ;)

    doug coombs

I've never skied in France, but I have skied Tucks a few times and I my bet is that nothing in the Presis is even close. Maybe you can find some steep pitches that are 50 degrees plus, but not for as a sustained length. These couloirs at La Grave are all "no fall" zones....you fall; you die...

    doug coombs

Thanks for the link King....I read that article yesterday. I thought it was very well done, especially his wife's comments at the end. The various ski forums have had tons of discussion relative to this incident and whether people that pursue careers like Doug's are irresponsible for taking...
