    Packcover with a hood?

Exped Packcover poncho Exped makes a packcover with a short waisted poncho attached. I special ordered on from europe since they don't market it in the US. It cost me about $50 including shipping. I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to modify it first adding some sleeves I think. Check it...

Do you wear a hat in summer?

I don't really like hats for the same reasons mentioned by others. Keeps me too warm. I've found that this hat solves that problem. I carry it with me always. It's ultra light, has lots of venting to allow heat to escape. It can be wadded up and stuffed into my pack and come out looking...

How many "nights out" do you get?

I've had my best year ever with (8) trips of 3 to 7 days totalling about 40 nights. I spent 5 days on the Lost Coast of California and the rest in Southern Oregon and Northern California (bigfoot country). Leaving again Monday for another (7) dayer. Life is good.

    Exped Foam 9 Mattress

Boy, if I was looking at an Exped Foam 9, I'd also consider an Exped Downmat 7. Slightly lighter and more than twice the R-value. Also much more compressable. I've used the Downmat 7 short for a couple years and it works for my 54 year old body. You can check it out here at REI...

    Dog Packs

Off trail dogs Yes, I did find that my dog would lose her pack in the brush. As time went on, it seemed like maybe she was doing it on purpose even. In any case it was a worry. She never dumped it over a cliff, but she could have. The pack I made used the old harness from Ruffwear. I...

    Dog Packs

I have been looking for a lighter dog pack for my dog. I've used a Ruffwear pack for her for years and it's held up well. But it weighs over 26 oz empty. So I took a couple of medium Sea to Summit Dry sacks and sewed them onto the harness from the Ruffwear pack and saved my dog over 15 oz. Her...
