    VFTT group hike?

I would plan to go but it would be a low priority on my calendar.

How well does a wire saw work in these applications?

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Tracking may be the issue. I like to see the numbers, although I do not like how slow I am according to the numbers. Over the last few months I have been using it to track routes I know really well.

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Even in airplane mode I get about 9 hours. Maybe I am taking too many pictures for my Parkinson's friend who wants the illustrated version of my running trip report.

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Is it better to resurrect a 2 year old thread and ask a somewhat off-topic question there, or do we want a page record with this thread? JoshandBaron posted about his mobile device battery lasting more than a day doing navigation, and I want to know how he sets that up. I get maybe 9 hours.

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Human knowledge can disappear, and has disappeared. The libraries at Alexandria got burned. It is extreme optimism to assume that the sum knowledge of humanity will survive what causes that kind of population drop.

    2024: Leas snow than normal

If you want continued human existence, then the length and conditions of past human existence are very much NOT irrelevant. If you want to live NOT under a dictatorship/royalty, then as best as I can tell your only option is to include everyone, including flat-earthers*, in your civil...

    Off Trail Fatal on Kinsman

Everything we use has a finite life. It may not be easy to know. The aviation industry mandates part replacement on a time and use schedule. Car racing safety equipment like harnesses and helmets have date codes for this reason. I believe the helmets are date of manufacture, and the harness...

    2024: Leas snow than normal

My school education* that said the next nuclear war would be 80 years after the last one, because almost all the people who lived during the last one would be dead. So 2025 is the year. Which is next year. *I originally wrote elementary but concluded that it was several years later. Using...

    Off Trail Fatal on Kinsman

Old bike helmets (25 years?) had foam liners. There was a short period of time when you could buy bike helmets that were foam with no hard shell. And for some age groups in some locations helmets are required by law for bicyclists, which is an outdoor activity. I forget if I posted this on...

    Off Trail Fatal on Kinsman

What helmet did you buy and then not use? I use an outdated bicycle helmet with a brimmed hat underneath. The hat has slots cut for the helmet straps, and the helmet was selected from my collection as one where I could unthread the strap, thread the strap through the hat slots, and rethread...

    2024: Leas snow than normal

There is snow today on Monadnock if snow is your goal. Global warming is happening. Human activity is a major part of that, if not all of that. Reversing or stopping global warming at today's level will not happen, with the possible exceptions of nuclear winter (sadly seeming more and more...

Home in the Range (The Belknap's).

Which parking area and what route did you use? My interpretation is that summer conditions means that the slick was water not ice, correct? I had thought of Monadnock tomorrow Monday 25 November 2024, but today it is white. Wachusett, Watatic and the Pack Monadnocks are not white.

    2024: Leas snow than normal

Each of us is puny, but 8 billion or so can add up. Believing in the punyness of mankind is kind of like believing there is wilderness in New England somewhere.

    Winter Backpacking Boots

And yet a friend has done a lot of things with Parkinsons disease due to stubbornness. But now as the sign suggests it might well kill her. Sad in many ways, despite a lot of happy memories. 18 months ago we got to the top of Parkman using carriage roads and 1/2 mile of easy trail, but almost...

    Owls Head Nov 17

I stashed a folding bicycle at the 19 mile brook trailhead, and started up Moriah at 6 AM the next day, going to Carter Dome. The ride back was mostly downhill and still daylight.

    Owls Head Nov 17

I hiked my first of the 48 (back then only 46) in 1970, and hiked Cannon, the last one needed for the list, in June or July 2023. I thought I had finished in October 2022 on North Twin, but a review afterwards showed me that I had not hiked Galehead because it was not on the list in 1971 so I...

    Owls Head Nov 17

I have read about bushwhacking north off Owls Head to the 13 Falls area. It was part of a proposed or actual route for a Pemi peak loop, as opposed to the normal Pemi trail loop.

Is Giant Mountain ridge trail comparable to Algonquin?

I thought the Adirondacks rules were that you had to have snowshoes, not that you had to use them.
