Nice pictures. The trek up Maryland Heights is a nice one -- great boulder-y outlook over the town. I like the interpretive signs along the way, too, in particular the one about how the entire hill was denuded of trees 170-80 years ago to feed the 50 large charcoal hearths on the hill. Neat...

If it helps, remember that when on the Crawford Path: 1. the sign for the Mizpah Cut-off is white with three lines of green lettering (trail name and distances to the tent site and hut) -- it's on a large hemlock or fir tree and the branches are cut high enough so that the sign is not obscured...

Agreed. Stuff is looking good in the Lakes Region; not so much further north (turning patchy and brown).

I drove by there earlier today, as a matter of fact. As Michelle indicated, at the trailhead is an area large enough for 2-3 cars to park. Directly across the road from the trailhead is a viewpoint for Lily Pond, with enough space for 4-5 cars along the side of the road.

It's a great hike -- do it. I've done this a number of times and enjoyed it as a nice alternative to Dicey's Mill, et al. Perhaps the reason why you don't hear that much about folks taking that route is...well, I'll be honest -- don't know why. As a bonus: because you won't see as many folks...

Great trip report and very nice pictures. The "crazy field of cairns on the way to the highest point on our trek, Col de Chavière" reminds me of the "cave of cairns" near the end of the slot canyon on the Joint Trail, in the Needles District of Canyonlands. A neat treat.
