I might have to hike this to the Nauman Tentsite in the dark this Friday night. Wanted to know if it's a well marked trail or only a few markers? Probably starting at 9-10pm. I will be with another person, just haven't done a night hike in a very long time. Thx

It's very well marked and wide open. Don't miss the Mizpah cut-off though.;)

In the dark, it might be possible to miss the cut-off. From memory the sign is pretty high on a tree. The junction is pretty wide though. The cut-off veers off to the right at an angle, somewhere between 45 & 90 degrees. (I played cards in geometry, so that's about as close as I can guess:D)

Thx guys. Guess if we miss the cut off I'll realize it 1.2 miles later when we see stars on top of Pierce :rolleyes: My nephew said we can get extra water up there, any opinion on that?

You'll also be close to Mizpah Hut. It's open until the 16th of October this year.

there is a spring right at the tentsite

If I remember correctly, the spring is between the hut and the tent platforms, off to the right as you approach the tent area. It was too difficult to find in winter, with four feet of snow above it, but the drainage should be clear to see at this time of year. There was a neat little wooden spout for filling up. Watch out for spruce-traps on the cut-off!

thx....getting ready for another adventure, hope there aren't to many rocks/roots to watch out for on the trail, going slow and carefully...we can only stay for 1 night and leave Sat afternoon. Another 600 mile trip for a 10 mile hike :(

If it helps, remember that when on the Crawford Path:

1. the sign for the Mizpah Cut-off is white with three lines of green lettering (trail name and distances to the tent site and hut) -- it's on a large hemlock or fir tree and the branches are cut high enough so that the sign is not obscured. It should show up in your headlamp fine. It's on the right-hand side of the trail;

2. directly opposite that sign is an unpainted wooden sign that simply says "Crawford Path"...it's on a smaller hemlock or fir tree (about 6-8 inches in diameter).

You'll be fine.

Great trip! Will write up the report today. thx...it was pretty wet along the path. Loved the walk from Pierce to Eisenhower.
