Waterville Valley Nordic pass required for Livermore Rd.?

Also - no dogs are allowed on the Livermore Road or Tripoli Road (or any of the XC network except the Village Trail).

    Web Cam options

The best way to avoid compromising the home network or bandwidth is one of the many models of webcam out there that can be set to upload (FTP or other techniques) an image on a regular basis to a web server somewhere else, so the general populous is not hitting the server on the camera itself...

    Zealand & Hale Advice Please

Maybe a few tenths before the A-Z junction there's a small slope on your right hand side when walking in; watch for a herd path. I believe that to be legit (outside the FPA).

    New Presidential for you peakbaggers

Optimistic and clean prominence apply when determining values from a topo map, but don't we have real, measured values for these peaks?

    AMC Hiker Shuttle...

Technically, trespassing. Not to mention you'd be going over the big trestle which could range from terrifying to fall-to-your-death. Be careful.

    AMC Hiker Shuttle...

The Webster Cliff trailhead is at the foot of the short driveway to the Ripley Falls/Ethan Pond trailhead. That's as close as you get, for sure.

    DEC won't rebuild Marcy Dam

Feel free to spot this off to a new thread, but in terms of Flat Mountain Pond doesn't that support fish and an entire biosystem that has grown up in the decades that the dam has been there? The article about Marcy Dam says the impoundment didn't support any fish or other aqueous life due to the...

Tecumseh Winter Night Hike – Sunday 12/29/13

Wow, they made that snow fast - that ski trail at the "View" sign (Boneyard, just below the bottom of the Northside Double which also has a short footpath to it from the hiking trail) had bare ice and rock and no sign of any snowmaking activity when I hiked down past it around 10:45am on Sunday.

Congratulations, Jeremy! I see Ed's announcement says 366 - must have been stressful watching the weather forecasts for that Feb 29 hike!

Specific Questions On Goggles For Winter Hiking

Smith does indeed make goggles with tiny fans *and* photochromatic lenses, in both regular and over-the-glasses form factors. I have no experience with them. When skiing, a good helmet will have a vent intake just over the goggles. This allows air to flow up through the goggles, keeping the...

    Speed trap

Actually, that's rational. The road there is two lanes but does not have sufficient breakdown lanes and shoulders to receive a 65mph limit. It is suitable for 55, however, and I remember when it was 45 all the way to where it now goes to 65 and have to wonder if they ticketed the wrong person...

Replacement bridge on Mt Pemi Trail

It was like that Nov 9th. The "replacement" looked pretty well worn and had been there a while, unless it was created with parts of the old bridge.
