    Joshua Tree

I did all the hikes that Wardsgirl did in Joshua Tree and they are all very nice. There are lots of cool places to just stop along the way when driving around, too. If you are staying in or near Palm Springs, I also highly recommend the Indian Canyons, just south of downtown Palm Springs. It...

    Mtnpa RIP

I met Mike (MtnPa) and Mtnmama at a VFTT Boston beer night 11 years ago and ran into him on the trails from time to time after that. I always enjoyed running into him. Always thought he was a great guy. Mike was part of the SAR team that brought my best friend off Peak Above The Nubble...

    Bemis Stream Trail closure

Thanks for the heads-up. There is definitely a lot of logging activity around the Bemis Track. Not sure if they are logging up high as well. May have to go up a nearby logging road and check that out in the near future. Anyone traveling on the Bemis Track (aka, Bemis Road) from Houghton to...

    Freezing freaking water bottles

Another vote for a Nalgene with hot water and a koozie. I usually put in water that is not quite at the the boiling point, to ensure that the Nalgene is not disfigured. Never had a freeze-up, even on long and cold hikes. Marty

    BAX-TAH Beta request

You probably won't need long pants to N. Brother if it is dry, as the branches are mostly balsam. We stayed in shorts to the summit. We weren't cut, but we were totally soaked. Switched to rain pants on the summit because it was cool and windy. Kept them on to a bit below the upper Mt. Coe...

    BAX-TAH Beta request

Hiked to North Brother on Monday: 1. When I did Fort several years ago, I followed a few cairns going down off the summit of North Brother and then to the left, which took me to where the Fort herd path begins. I did see a few of those cairns on Monday, but was unable to determine if all were...
