    Perseids coming soon

I wont even have to set the alarm since I've been waking up around 1am and can't fall back to sleep until minutes before the alarm goes off at 4:30! Or maybe we will just camp in the backyard... ;)

Beer Night at the " sunset tiki bar " Westford, ma August 4th.

hum, there is a tiki bar where i go skydiving. well, only on labor day weekend. they build it, have ice shooters and a bar on the bottom, 'dancers' on top, with um, limited clothing shall we say, (or maybe clothing optional...) and they burn the whole thing on sunday night. it is an insanely...

    Umbagog Trip

I think you have to camp in designated camping sites on Umbagog. The campground is a state park, and there are 2 or 3 sites near the Rapid River, i've camped on one of them. There is a lot of private property and camps on many of the islands. The paddle over to the site felt way more like we...

    Umbagog Trip

yup! Umbagog is very special and worth returning to every year. Unfortunately I was never able to have my own kids, but I have a lot of nieces and nephews and OPK's. (Other People's Kids) Getting these kids out there to look around them at the 'real' world and disconnect from the phones...

    Umbagog Trip

Just back from 3 days and 2 nights kayak camping on an island in Umbagog Lake. :) I love that lake, and camping there. I try to get up there at least once a year, and I am ready to pack up and head back again tomorrow, but that pesky working for a living thing gets in the way. This trip...

    Loon Populations are up

That is great news! Just back from a 3 day trip to umbagog, and have to say, we saw quite a few loons. There was a pair right by our campsite that had a young one, and we saw 2 solo young ones when we were out exploring, not sure if the folks were out fishing without them or if they were now...

    Solo Peakbagging %s

Geneva likes to Woof on her cell phone while postholing and updating her facebook page. But she carries her own food, water and power bones. We don't actually have any conversations, so am I hiking solo with my dog, or does it not count because she is studying to be an electrical engineer...

Best Apple Pie, Vermont to White Mountain Region

Don't forget Riverstones! They are my favorite bakery outside of the North End... for sweets. For breads it is a hard choice, so many great bakeries in Portland! And of course our own little village bakery in north conway. dang, now i am hungry...

    MITA suggestions

Just got the latest newsletter and am thinking about a trip, finally. Any suggestions for a person new to ocean kayaking, who will be going solo, for a 1 or 2 night trip? Preferably some protected'ish' area so I can get used to the difference in water from lakes and rivers to the ocean...

    Hale for Geneva's 23rd NH48

I did consider it, but I had hiked this trail a few weeks ago and took the bushwhack on the way back, looking for the FWT and didn't see it. I have been on it twice in winter, and probably had old snowshoe tracks to follow... :o I was wondering if the little Inuksuit (inuksuk?) was pointing...

    Hale for Geneva's 23rd NH48

Yes, she and Leo are both lucky little fur suits! I think that inuksuit and inuksuk are used the same, or just translated differently? Not sure, but it was nicely built and if I could figure out how to load a picture into a post I would post it! :o With a name like 'chiniook trail' you would...
