Greylock and Alligator Eggs via the AT from the North

i went up via the hopper trail last weekend. if you go back, consider it. it's a beautiful walk in the woods with pretty fantastic scenery the entire way. i like greylock.

    ditching the koflachs?

i've certainly heard of the phenomenon before- you'll see it in the writings of bonatti et al, but i have one question: why would a step-in crampon reduce the effect of a chilling of the feet over a strap-on crampon? it would seem the two would have a similar effect, although i've only used...

    Solo hiking

it seems we agree (there's a first for everything, right?) neil, it's all love man, but i gotta disagree. to me, a climb is a climb. whether you walk up in flip flops, or do a 5 pitch trad route, it's all just a different take on getting up a mountain. and if you wanna get really technical...

    ditching the koflachs?

wow, those madrocks look pretty good. and for $200?! thanks for the links to the others too kevin. where did you try those boreals on? dug, i hear you. those orange monsters are usually overkill in the northeast.

    ditching the koflachs?

like many on here, i have koflach degres, but i guess i'm not as enamored with them as most seem to be. they work well, and they're pretty comfortable for what they are- but that's just it- they are monstrous, completely inflexible plastic blocks on my feet. i'd like something that felt even...

White Mtn map exhibit at Harvard this spring

The easiest way to get to Lamont is via one of the gates off Quincy St. Lamont is basically at the corner of Quincy and Mass Ave (and Harvard St.- it's a weird intersection). I'll be sure to check this out.

    Ripped Marmots

That's just yucky, homey... I gotta stay fresh and clean. As soon as I get back to the whip I toss my iced out medallions and cuban links back on.

    The North Face Venture Jacket

not a fan of hyvent i got some hyvent pants a long time ago when it first came out... they are supposedly breathable. in reality, they don't breathe at all. i might as well be wearing rubber pants. at least they have full side zips. if you're into the deal, go for it, but just thought i'd give...

    ultralight packs--need advice!

I've had very good luck with my Mountainsmith Ghost. I've used it on numerous overnights and I use it for most dayhikes as well. On a few of the overnighters I've carried 40-ish pounds, and it was adequate. It's straight-up comfy in the 20-25lb range. Not a lot of bells & whistles, one...

    Glastonbury Mt, VT

now i want that 'weird new england' book. it looks pretty cool. i think a major personality flaw that i possess is being one of those people that will sit down and watch any show about anything even remotely paranormal. i just watched a pretty cool one on sasquatch/bigfoot/yeti local legends.
