Katahdin - a week in the South Basin

Stunning photos! I really like the first ice climbing pic in the slideshow.

What happens when you try to hike a 4000-footer and get, um, a little turned around?

Bummer! That was quite an entertaining read and re-inforced my beliefs in spending winters skiing, drinking beer, eating hot wings, hot tubbing, and drinking beer again. Better luck next time. I find the blazes a lot easier to find in the summer, and am not quite bright enough to work a gps...

    I did Owl's Head because...

I hiked it for the list, but I ended up really liking the valley around Owl's Head in the Pemi. It was a hidden treat. The summit wasn't overly exciting, but I liked the whole trip and I love the area. I might go back someday to check out all the little rivers and waterfalls. I doubt i will...

    Man vs "wild"

Bear has climbed Everest twice more than Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. I wouldn't say he is fake, I would say that he has a good editing team.

    Bugs & Baxter State Park

typically the bugs come out right when the roads are cleared from the snows from the winter. I made the mistake of going in June one summer. Save your blood, and book the trip in the dead of summer or the fall. Visit Acadia, the bugs are not bad in the springtime there.

NY Times Article: Sunday River Ski Area

I grew up skiing at Sugarloaf and Sunday River. It's kind of funny to think of it as an out of the way quaint mountain. Growing up in Lewiston Maine, Sunday River was considered the close mountain to all the out of staters. I have always liked skiing there, it is a fun mountain, but you get to...

    Sugarloaf (ME) via ski trails?

I would recommend going up the West Mt trail. There is seperate parking at this chairlift, and it is a ghost town on this trail compared to the rest of the mountain. Then you could stop at Bullwinkles, which is just above the top of West Mt. Then go up via one of the trails from there...

    Weight training

I like to mix in 30 minutes or so of cardio a day and 30 minutes of weight lifting in each work out. I have found that my body burns the most fat this way since the cardio burns calories during the workout and the muscles eat the fat after the workout is done to sustain themselves. I am...

Healthiest City in America - Burlington, Vermont!

Burlington is a really fun city to live in. The only thing it is missing really is proximity to the ocean. The green mountains are only a 40-50 minute drive from the city and we have Lake Champlain too. The downtown is fun, lots of good places to go for happy hour, since it is still mostly a...

Healthiest City in America - Burlington, Vermont!

It was judged by people who said "they felt they were in good shape". If they would have asked me at happy hour on friday while shoveling cheese sticks and beer into my mouth, I would have said that I felt great too! Just curious, how do they interpret the results from herbally enhanced...

Bagging our 67th with Mica and Pumpkins

Congrats on your accomplishment! You ended a great journey on a special set of mountains, my favorite in Maine after Katahdin. Best of luck in your future endeavors, whatever they may be.

Bold Coast and Fundy Nat'l Park

Cool video! I enjoyed Schoodic Point and those other Maine sights I haven't seen in a while. Perhaps when global warming hits, Burlington Vermont will be the new New England coast line. Until then, I may have to drive over to Maine, those pictures looked beautiful! -Ex Maineac turned Vermonster.

Mt. Mansfield and the forgotten camera 10-19-08

Picture 13 did not seem to come out for me, you may want to check the contrast. I even looked at it with my beer goggles on, no way i could see the mountains in the distance...

    Giant Mt and Rocky Peak-ADK's

I took a nice scenic drive through the Vermont countryside and into New York on Monday morning. One of the best things about working at a bank is at that you get all kinds of great holidays off! I sipped my Dunkin Donuts coffee while staring at the gorgeous foliage while driving down route 116...

    Mt. Mansfield "nose" question

I just put in a bid to Henry Paulson to buy the resort. Thinking about taking the towers down on the top of the mountain and replacing them with a fried chicken restaurant.

    Mt. Mansfield "nose" question

I think the risk of radiation is just above the risk of alien abduction. It's there, just not too high. Stowe just wants to protect it's assets from stoned, angry hippies. AIG is the owner of the resort though, so maybe the new impending management will do something with the towers. If you have...

    Mansfield Classic 9/19/08

Definitely one of my favorite routes on the mountain. The Maple ridge side of the mountain has the best trails up to the top, and 90% of people that hike Mansfield miss it b/c they hike from the state park lot. I have always been curious about the Wampahoofus trail, whats the background on that...
