You figure after a year and a half some idiot would have hiked Owl's Head by accident and admitted it. I thought that's why the thread was resurrected but nobody is fessing up.

Three times now I've gotten lost on Franconia Ridge and ended up on Owl's Head. Damn compass.

If you insist:
A friend and I made a wrong turn while skiing on the Lincoln Brook Trail. Ended up on some peak in the middle of nowhere...

First time to check off #47. Second time to help a friend. Third time to help another friend, and because I wanted to ski into it.

"I'm a peak bagger and sure, I'd do Owl's Head again" and again and again...13 times and counting.....and with an array of sophisticated surveying equipment next summer (or fall) :D

I just returned to hiking last year and not in shape at all to do Owl's Head anytime soon. However, I am very eager to hike it as there is something calling at me to experience what many hikers complain about.

my favorite memories

were of camping nearby, (I did it as a 2 day backpack) fishing the streams there, and an awesome thunderstorm at night.

I don't get to the Whites very often. What are some reasons why I should do Owl's Head instead of something else?

Climbing Owl's Head provides for a great cardio-workout while you run the flat miles to and from the slide?

Because you like to walk on an old railroad bed for several miles (passing the cooler-crowd for the first three miles), climb a loose scree slide, walk through an established herd path to a viewless summit(s), then return. Or, said differently, 16 miles of suck.

No views?

6X on Owlshead, always a joy

I hiked it for the list, but I ended up really liking the valley around Owl's Head in the Pemi. It was a hidden treat. The summit wasn't overly exciting, but I liked the whole trip and I love the area. I might go back someday to check out all the little rivers and waterfalls. I doubt i will climb to the top again, not much to see on the top...

HAs the 'trail' been relocated?? When I climbed OH, it was in a substantial erosion ditch.

rup,

Are you refering to eight miles of former logging railroad as a "substantial erosion ditch," or did you consider part of the slide to be eroded? Some parts of the logging road section are severely eroded. There is an official bypass around at least one such section. Did you hike in the rain?

It is an awesome trail run when the snow is out.In winter you cannot beat the Lincoln slide approach.Next time I'm bringing skis!
