    Flags on the 48, 2006 September 9th

I really enjoyed this event last year. In a strange way, it felt like we were doing something positive through all the confusion to remember in our own individual ways, while paying our respects as a collective group. Thanks again to Silent Cal and all others who organize this. I'll be on...

    Pressie Traverse vs Marathon

I haven't done a marathon, but a half-marathon, and thought the Presi Traverse was much easier. In fact, I would say that the Wildcats-Carters-Moriah traverse starting at Glenn Ellis Falls is harder than the full Presi-Traverse. With the Presi Traverse, you can stop, and eat, and socialize...

    Hiking in the Nude

Yeah, that was the Wilderness Trail and no, we weren't saying way to go. We said put on clothes! As for me: 1. No 2. No 3. I really can't see that happening... unless someone spiked my camelpack.

    Home Invasion by Bear

Last September, I took a week off of work and was camped out. It was after Labor Day so the campsite was all mine. I got back to the campsite after dark and started a fire and just relaxed. I heard some noise from an adjacent site, but remembered that one other person was staying on the...

    Mansfield 6/10

Have fun, DB... but I suggest BOTH ice cream and beer! Best way to unwind after a great hike!

Two to three day long trip ideas.

Mike, good call with Appalachia. You can also park at the Cog and head up the amonoosuk, hit Monroe, Washington, take different trails up there, hit Jefferson, then come down the Jewell.

    Saddleback & Horn, #59 & 60 -- 5/28/06

Great T/R, DB. Do you have an Ibruprofen (as opposed to a PEZ) dispenser of Bugs Bunny's head for the advil? J/K. Good Job!

Two to three day long trip ideas.

You can do a lot out of the Pemi while parking at Lincoln Woods (I love that place). For example, you could go up the Wilderness Trail then head across the flat trails (though I'm sure VERY wet trails) to the northern side of the Pemi, then head up to Guyot Shelter, then come back down via the...

    Everest Attempt for VFTT'ers?

I answered could be talked into it. I think Giggy said it best with the superbowl reference. But I also think of it this way: Some mornings, I feel like I can climb Everest. By evening, I have troubles climbing the stairs. And like the Superbowl where I can only imagine myself throwing...

    Cabot and Waumbek

Have fun. The Horn is nice, especially on a clear day!

How can you tell if you encounter a VFTT member on the trail?

I thought "Alligator Eggs" was the final answer. I saw MEB hike the Franconia Ridge from Lafayette to Lincoln Woods saying "Alligator Eggs" over and over to all people she encountered. Seems like others remembered it too.

Playing in the rain on Moosilauke - May 21

It was great seeing the three of you upon your return. Amy, Your TR sounds great. And as always, the "Bopsy Twins" really add new flavor to ANY hut :D . See you soon.

Given this choice, which peak should I finish my 4000'ers on?

Isolation Jefferson Carrigain I'm biased because I finished on Isolation, but it was incredible.

How much do you spend on hiking?

I'm hoping that since I am new to hiking, most of my costs are simply front-end "needed" items and that I will not need to buy so much this coming year. Wishful thinking, I guess.

    Pain in the Knee

Dave, you are definitely right about seeing a doctor before making any presumptions and self-medicating. My stretches are typical stretches good for anyone running/exercising. Honestly, I've just accepted my knee pains as something with which I have to deal. Not that big of a deal. They have...

    Pain in the Knee

THIS IS IT!!! I have had been knee pains all my life. I LIVE on pain killers for it. When I was six, my parents brought me to a knee doctor who said it was growing pains. I'm not really a 'going to the doctor' type of guy. I think I'll set an appt. and mention this to him/her. Thanks for...
