Western Maine land #1 on federal list

It's been a bit less than 2 years since I started this thread and I'm happy to post that the land in question is protected. For anyone who is interested, you can read about it here.

    Are you a peakbagger?

I voted I've never list hiked but may someday. I've never hiked something just because it's on a list. Hard to say what I may want to do someday though. I guess we'll see. Neat poll.

50 Most Prominent. 100 Most Prominent? 200 Most Prominent??

Since people are debating prominence, a discussion on Reduced Spire may be of some interest. edit: The links in the old thread above don't seem to work anymore. Perhaps someone saved a copy of the map and/or list that was being discussed.

    Western Maine 9/2-7

I just wanted to add another restaurant option. Tufulios is located on RT-27 about 5 miles south of the Sugarloaf access road. Good Italian food and they always have a good selection of Maine beers on tap. Another vote for the Porterhouse in Eustis. Good stuff! Enjoy your trip!

    Elvios Lincoln's Rangeley Stratton Adventure

Great trip report! I really enjoyed reading it. I'm probably a bit biased being a Mainer and all but this is one of my favorite spots in the northeast. Glad you enjoyed your trip!

    Hiking in Maine + Blueberries

Another vote for Little Jackson. Blueberries were quite abundant the last week of August last year. I also think the hike qualifies as awesome. Another option in the same area is Blueberry Mountain. I've never been there but the name alone sounds promising! Good luck and enjoy.

    Hell Brook Trail on Mansfield

I did it this past weekend and on numerous occasions thought to myself that I wouldn't want to come down it. There were a lot of slabby sections that were wet. A couple of them were a nightmare going up... no way I would have wanted to go down. In my opinion, the Hell Brook Trail is aptly...

    Hikers Dream Car

I looked at the new Tacoma when I needed to trade my old Tacoma in on something with an automatic. They are huge.. almost the size of the older Toyota Tundra. I ended up with a 4wd Ford Ranger. Sweet little truck that will go just about anywhere I point it. We also have an Outback. Both...

    Goose Eye trail

What a difference a year (or has it been two??) makes. Weather was perfect... the exact opposite of when I bumped into you and SherpaK.

    Goose Eye trail

Have you considered approaching from the east via the Wright Trail? I hiked it this past weekend and it's great. From what I've read about the Goose Eye Trail, the Wright Trail seems to be far more interesting... lots of waterfalls and pools along Goose Eye Brook and it splits into two forks...

Avery & Fire Wardens Trail Conditions? - Maine

I'd expect to find quite a bit of snow still... that area recieved 90+ inches of snow in April.

    Spring Snowstorm coming!

Sugarloaf is reporting 20-24 inches and Saddleback is reporting 26 inches... putting both areas well over 30 inches for the week. These are ski resort numbers so believe/don't believe as you see fit.

    Major Noreaster Coming!!

Saddleback, ME is reporting 40" and Sugarloaf is reporting 31" at the base. These obviously should be taken with a grain of salt but the NWS is reporting that Eustis, ME got 29.8 inches which could validate the above claims. We only got around 9" in mid coast Maine.
