redington wind plant - lurc hearing

There are plenty of already ruined spots out there suitable for wind industry. Redington is certainly not one of them.

Great news! Glad LURC showed some foresight.

    Bigelow

I drove all the way to the trailhead on January 13 with a 4wd pickup. There was probably about 2-3 inches of old snow on top of patchy ice. We had no problem but I was in four wheel drive the whole way. I think it snowed that night so conditions may have changed. I don't think I would have...

    Ski Conditions in the Whites

I like the interactive snow model from NOHRSC. You can zoom and change layers from snow-water equiv, depth, snowpack temp, etc. Kinda' neat. Interactive Snow Model

    Wind turbines in GMNF

I suppose I'm one of those "people" you mention... I've seen the wind farms between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. This is a fine example of a PROPER site for wind industry. Seeing wind turbines in an industrial area is a nice thing to see. What I (and others) have a problem with is proposed...

    marmot precip

Here's another happy Precip owner. Keeps me very dry and I've been happy with it in winter conditions as well.

I think that the green area is land recently purchased by Roxanne Quimby... She just reached an agreement with "traditional users" (a debatable term but I digress). Read about it here. edit: Maybe I'm wrong? Where is the recently purchased Quimby land? Do you know Spencer?

Big Squaw, the end of a journey

Congrats! As others have said, what an amazing accomplishment! Those pictures are so beautiful... I need to spend more time up at Moosehead.

    Tumbledown (Weld) - Access

I've been there twice in the last 2 months... I'll just echo this post except that you should be able to drive the entire way down Morgan Road... it ends at a small clearing that is clearly marked Little Jacskon Trail. Hike about 0.3 miles up the trail and there is a newly signed split in the...

Oh the wildness of the Whites without Huts...

Yeah, I suspect the Maine numbers should be taken with a grain of salt as the future of many of those acres are uncertain at best.

Oh the wildness of the Whites without Huts...

I assume you are basing this post on the AMC study found here. I thought people might like to see the statistics. Looking at the top 15 roadless areas ranked by size, I see 7 in ME, 6 in NH, and 2 in VT. The total amount of roadless area for each (acres) are 484,300 for ME, 403,500 for NH...

    Maine Mountain Conference 10.21.06

I was just checking out the Maine Appalachian Trail Land Trust's website and noticed some info regarding The Maine Mountain Conference, scheduled for October 21, 2006 in Rangeley. This is the first conference in 34 years devoted to the problems and opportunities facing the Mountains of Maine...

    Christmas in August!!!

I can't think of too many other places I'd rather spend a week in than Carrabassett Valley. Nice report and pictures! If you liked Tumbledown, you should check out nearby Little Jackson. The view OF Tumbledown is spectacular.

Maine wind-power site taking shape, will produce 42 megawatts from 28 turbines

This is a perfect example of properly sited wind industry. I wish I could say the same for some of the other sites being proposed. Nice article... I enjoyed reading it.

    Attendance plummets at Baxter...

All good points… I definitely wasn’t trying to indicate that people were picking on BSP or anything like that. I guess I just don’t mind, much like yourself, planning far in advance.

    Attendance plummets at Baxter...

I think the article is trying to link the declines to the internet because this a national trend... it's not just BSP that is seeing a decline. I think sardog1 makes some excellent points. Also, I don't think the reservation system is that tough to figure out.
