    Burning Calories When Hiking

The water loss is not only sweat. The body burns glucose then converts stored glucose in the form of glycogen in the liver and muscles into glucose. This metabolism releases water in the process. As you rehydrate and eat carbs you will return to your previous weight as your glycogen stores are...

    question about mountain ash berries...birds?

At what elevation did you see these caches? I suspect that Gray Jays are the culprits. They spend most of thier time caching food. When you feed them on the trail they will swallow the food into thier crop where it gets coated with a substance like shelac. They then will cache this food in...

    Why Do We Buy Fleece

That could take some research...there is alot of local wool production in Northern New England. The yarn goes into a variety of products from clothes to tapestries. You may be limited to gloves, socks and hats.

    AT/Rondonee question

Although telemark is very intriguing and I would probably go that route, I seem to ski most with my son who is an alpine bomber. Having torn an ACL on the slopes I am a bit more cautious. I do attack a slope but I tend to attack a pizza or sandwich wiht more vigor. I would say my breakdown would...

    AT/Rondonee question

thanks for the feed back. I have looked at some of the old threads. I do ski now. I rent alpine and own BC nordic and skate skiis. I just don't want to own a set of AT and alpine and hope to have a solution for both. I think an AT set up is the way to go. Pricewise AT could be a bit more...

    AT/Rondonee question

Does any one just use alpine touring skiis for both backcoountry and groomed trails? I am looking into taking the leap and want to do both with one investment. I welcome any and all comments, advice and jokes.
