Time for a new camera: semi-manual???

I keep my camera attached to the sternum strap, easy to get quick shots.

Wow, across from your office? If you go there 150 times can you get a few patches?

Time for a new camera: semi-manual???

My preference is Canon. Besides the picture quality and zero problems in poor weather, their customer support, knowledge of functions, and willingness to spend time on the phone till you're satisfied is outstanding. A few years back, I sent a 35mm film camera to them that was clearly out of...

Clouds and Lake of the Clouds...

Wow, great shot! I feel like I'm standing right in the midst of all this sudden activity. I've noticed you've been using a Sigma 18-200 lens. How long have you been using it, and is there a new and older version of this lens? I think all the shots I've seen of yours with this lens have been...

'The Great Range' - print by Nathan Farb ?

Yeah, he definately knows what he's looking for. He'll lug everything all night, set up, and wait for hours for the perfect light. Take a couple of perfect shots, and move on. I asked him if he takes any bad shots, and he said "sometimes, they're not always perfect, and I don't like to waste film."

    Winter Scene - good bad?

I agree totaly with Grumpy. I'd crop a bit more at the top on the first photo. Love the depth created with the snowy foreground and distant range. I also like the climber photo a lot. I have a similar shot of COLDFEET actually laying on his back (touching the ground not quite visable), reaching...

'The Great Range' - print by Nathan Farb ?

I have the book also...wouldn't part with it though! Haven't seen the poster for a while either. Caught a presentation of Mr.Farb's at the HPIC, and chatted a bit. A really nice man, and just love his work.

    Buried treasure in the Catskill?

There's also a story from the 30's of gangster Dutch Schultz's burried millions near the Esopus in Phoenicia. Where's my shovel?

    Alaska in February

Wow, Sardog lots of info. Thanks for sharing. Yeah, the family thing. I know what you mean. I have a large family here, it would be tough. We're curious where my son and daughter in-law are going to end up with her family up there. I think I already know the answer to that one.

Hey Jay, I haven't been out west in about 20 years, but I never saw Fred Myer's out there either...Chinooktrail, why did you ever leave?! I was thinking of possibly retiring up there, when the time comes. It is pretty expensive living though. I guess 1 moose and 1 giant halibut in the freezer...

    Alaska in February

Hey guys, gotta love that -52 weather! We were pretty lucky with temps the first few days reaching upper teens to -5 at nite. The last couple days were low single digits to about 15 below, nothing too crazy. I was dissappointed that we didn't get to the museum, I know you and others said not to...

    Alaska in February

Thanks Jay for the info. I did speak to some park rangers and got a map and some guide books with tons of information. I didn't really get an answer on how to identify your location or quadrant for camping. I hope to get back and find out!

    Alaska in February

Hey thanks Mark. The hiking I did was in the Fairbanks area that is super cold, doesn't get any wind, and minimal snowfall. Depths were about knee high. Denali area is another story. Can be 30 degrees warmer or more, with open tundra, lots of wind with a bit more snow. The worst road conditions...

    Alaska in February

The Denali sunrise was really cool. It was our second trip from Fairbanks, and after the somewhat cloudy first day with no sign of the mountain, we were rewarded almost immediately with that view. Couldn't wait to get down there closer to the park. Gotta get back in summer and take the 90mile...

Wow, what a cool trip! First, thanks to everyone here that had given me info a few weeks back. Took the family to Fairbanks for my son's (TundraTony) wedding, sightseeing and such. Checked out Chena Hot springs area, couple days around Denali NP and everywhere in between. Big beautiful state...
