    Zealand & The Bonds (16May09)

Trail Conditions: Lincoln Woods and Wilderness Trails are in excellent shape. Thoreau Falls Trail was in better shape than it typically is in spring with a few blowdowns and some wet muddy areas. Ethan Pond Trail was in awesome shape (basically a sidewalk). Zeacliff Trail had virtually no snow...

West Bond / Guyot Shelter via Owl's Head?

I think the easiest way is to avoid the ravine all together and head up (or down) via the ridge just north of the brook. It's mostly open woods until you get to about 4K then is mostly thick spruce to the summit of West Bond.

conditions on Signal Ridge Trail (Carrigain)..?

I have not been on the Signal Ridge Trail recently, but I did do a long hike in the Pemi last Saturday and passed by the bottom of Carrigain at the Desolation Trail/Carrigain Notch Trail intersection. Anyway, from what I have seen on the SE facing trails in the area (Willey Range Trail and...

    Crockers?

I have done the Crockers 6 times (for some strange reason), including twice in winter when it was actually raining, so I am not too fond of those #%&*@%! peaks. Like Una Dogger mentioned, you might be better off saving these peaks for a rainy "winter" day... The CVR is definitely not drivable...

    Boot Spur Trail 4-11-09

Trail Conditions: Boot Spur Trail is a mess, with lots of deep soft snow below treeline. Above treeline had a combination of too much rock to wear crampons, and enough snow/ice to still make it interesting walking/rock hopping. Special Equipment Required: Definitely bring snowshoes. Comments...

Clay/Washington/Monroe Loop (up Jewell down Ammo) 4-10-09

Trail Conditions: Trails were completely covered with snow from top to bottom. Snow was well consolidated even off trail below treeline. Above treeline was perfect crampon snow/ice with most of the rocks still covered. Special Equipment Required: Brought snowshoes, micro-spikes, and crampons...

The best hike I ever did......

As Trent Reznor is quoted from one of his songs, "Everyone I know Goes Away in the End". You were quite the brother to Hans and spent those memorable days bonding with him til the end. You helped him cope with his ordeal more than ANY doctor or hot nurse. You did well my friend... Makes...

Cedar Brook Crossing on Pemi East Side Trail?

Dangerous? No. Difficult? Maybe... I have been on the Cedar Brook Trail a few times in May, and didn't have much of a problem with the water crossings. Worst case is your going to have to take off your boots and walk 10 feet thru calf deep cold water, which is not so bad. Enjoy your trip and...

    Franconia Ridge Traverse, 3/21/2009

Nice TR and pics! I did the exact same hike the weekend before and in the same weather (only in the opposite direction). I try to do this hike at least once a year due to the "sweetness factor". Based on your pictures, there is a lot less snow from a week ago! I love the open woods of both the...

Breadloaf and Wilson via the Emily Proctor Trail (21Mar09)

Trail Conditions: Trails were well consolidated, though a little hard to follow from the shelter to both summits. Special Equipment Required: Could have barebooted the whole thing, but wore snowshoes up high, and for the descent. Comments: Spectacular day! Blue skies galore, no wind, and temps...

    My First Adirondak Adventures!

Cool trip report and pix MEB! Ya know, once you go Dak ya never go Bak :D What a weekend to be out! Adding Colvin and Blake to a Dial and Nippletop hike is like doubleing it though... Awesome trip!

Great Gulf Trail in Early May

I've been up it in late May and was close to the point of needing both snowshoes and Deet (doh!). In early May you can leave the Deet at home but might still need snowshoes. Due to the winds, the GG doesn't get quite near the amount of snow as Tuckermans, but being on the North side, it doesn't...

Info on Skookumchuck and/or Osseo trails?

Sorry that I am a little late on this, but I did a Osseo/Franconia Ridge/Skookumchuck traverse on Saturday. All trails were broken out and quite icy above treeline. Never wore my snowshoes, but crampons were the choice of the day above treeline. Below treeline was all barebootable. What a day to...

Dude, the economy isn't quite that bad yet. Once my 401K starts turning into a negative number AND my 800 lbs of rice I still have left over from the Y2K scare (which I can cook it in my Y2K proofed crock pot, that cost me $1200), then I will be up for the backyard-collecting maple leaf soup...

    Winter VT4K's in a day (2-28-04)

Too funny that this thread was revived after 5 years. I would be up for another round of this. It was a hoot! Older is wiser, and we would do things a little different the next time as Stinkyfeet pointed out. Gillian, I haven't hiked with Sir Edmund in over a year, so yes, I would also be...

    documenting 46 high peaks

I have a question (actually a few). Who controls the whole correspondent thing? Is there a chair of the committee? How do correspondents get picked? Inquiring minds want to know...

Mansfield via the Long Trail 2-28-09

Trail Conditions: Was nicely packed up to about 3500' then I lost the trail and just whacked up to the col. Saw lots of meandering tracks, but I just opted for a more direct route... Above treeline was mostly hardpacked windblown snow with a little ice. Special Equipment: Wore snowshoes most of...

Hike with a strange irrelevant non-hiking item? Oh no, I would never do that...:D

Osceola's via Dog Leg Slide 2/7/09

The spruce traps were a hoot. Once we peaked out on the top of the slide we thought things would be easier, but we were wrong... They were like land mines. Suebuiscuit was taken out first, then myself, then Arm made it past us for a little while then was quoted, "Bleep, this is going to take a...
