    Greatgulf and Madison gulf trail

Did it last year - great, wild trail. I am only 5' 8" and had maybe two spots where it was a little tough to reach the spots - but it was not that awful - I would do it again. Have fun!! By the way - it rained right after we got thru the tough sections...lucked out a bit that day!

    What is your "White Whale?"

Well, the one hike that everyone tells my you "have to do on a nice day" is the Balfaces - 3-4 times I have had it planned and on came the monsoon - still have not been there. I am still holding out hope, but BSP is looking like a White Whale too - last time I had it booked my wife had health...

Essential Gear for Overnight Hiking Trips

Over the years I have found that the bulky items and overpacking are the biggest culprits. Two years ago Bobby and I had a two night trip to Crag Camp in which at the end of the trip we realized that we each had food bags that weighed in around 10 pounds and we had not even eaten half of that...

Full Moon Presi Traverse attempt 8/16

Bobby - Just back from family vacation week - thanks for posting the report and the pics (you too Eric). A week's reflecting time has made me really glad we did this trip and even more glad to see how we stuck it out for so long and made the sane decision when things had turned worse and...

    Summer Rain pattern ending!

FWIW - my 48th was on Jackson and it was a monsoon! I hiked a lot more in the rain pre-48 - as I was on a timetable...since then, I have been a little pickier about the weather. Truth is, with family commitments etc, - I have to hike when I can. Getting soaked after I have been hiking for...

    Summer Rain pattern ending!

Hike no matter what - we all have $100 plus rain suits and expensive boots - only thing I am overly mindful of is where is my a** when the lightning starts - made it off one ridge once - I like to be sure I am below treeline where I can be more easily killed by a falling tree than by a direct...

    Summer Rain pattern ending!

I am probably going to get banned or stoned for this comment  - but I prefer rain to snow...winter is nice, but I prefer the other three seasons... :D It will seem very strange to hike this weekend with no real rain on the radar...

    Ammonoosuc by Moonlight?

also - extra batteries - and I am considering even upping to a better lamp - I generally use a Princeton Tec Scout which weighs one ounce (or so)...I have two of them and they are great for occasional use. That is fine when you may need some light at the beginning or end of a hike, but if you...

Great Gully Trail and King Ravine Trail?

To add to what Mike said - it probably makes a lot of sense to have ascended these types of trails before descending them...

    Mt Washington water question

It has been a few years for me - I forget - is there a water spigot/fountain outside at the summit? I seem to recall refilling at one, but I am not sure. Planning to be there well ahead of the summit buildings opening times... Thanks for any info... :)

Great Gully Trail and King Ravine Trail?

I agree with Kevin - I have only done the King Ravine Trail and I would not want to descend it - my memory is that I felt like every step was one foot forward and two feet up - very steep - if you look at the numbers in the AMC Guide you will get the idea - something near 1500 feet up in half a...

Cabot via York Pond/Bunnell Notch/Kilkenny Ridge

Bobby - thanks for writing...another great day and hike...Bunnell Notch Trail is very high on my list of all time favorites - great scenery - I would imagine most summers it is a lot drier.
