    3 trail peaks, 1 non-trail peak, but 4 'whacks

Sunday March 2, OneStep, Mark R, Al D, Damon and myself hiked Bulge, Horn and Unknown Pond Peak via the Unknown Pond Trail and the Kilkenny Ridge Trail. A nice group of kid from Gould Academy in Bethel, ME had been camping below the junction for the past week, so the UP trail was well-broken...

    Mt. Sugarloaf 3710' Feb. 24

Thanks for planning a great hike, Ed! I sure appreciated not having to bushwhack after the slog Al and I had the day before on the Pilots! Pics look great, except the photo labeled Georg is actually me; Georg is a lot trimmer than I! My photos...

    East Sleeper & Whiteface 2/20/08

Al Dwyer and I, working on our NE HH peaks in winter, did this hike via the Blueberry Ledge trail to the junction with the Kate Sleeper trail, and thence to the insignificant summit of East Sleeper, about 500 feet or less from the KS trail. We left the parking lot at 8:10. As I mentioned in my...

Bread Loaf via Emily Proctor & Bushwhack 2/16/08

Date of hike: 2/16/08 We lost the trail pretty quickly, never been on it before, so just bushwhacked to the summit of Bread Loaf. Snow conditions were excellent, pretty easy going, almost no spruce traps, mostly open woods until near the summit. We wore snowshoes the entire trip.

East Sleeper/Whitecap via Blueberry Ledge & Kate Sleeper Trs. (& Rollins)

East Sleeper/Whiteface via Blueberry Ledge & Kate Sleeper Trs. (& Rollins) Date of hike 2/20/08 Al Dwyer and I did East Sleeper via Blueberry Ledge; this trail is well broken-out and there is a lot of snow on the ledges, no crampons needed (though I wore them coming down). Kate Sleeper was...

    Wildcats -- 1/20/08

Hmmmm. Maybe I am too conservative, safety-wise, to be comfortable burning daylight at the front end. I apologize for the tone of my original message. From now on I will hike "my own damn hike".

Doesn't say much for your native intelligence, dude, to start a hike after noon. Bad example! I wouldn't crow about it.

Beta on Whitecap and North Kennebago Divide

Last year at the same time you were up there we drove down Cyclone Road and did a 'whack to Boundary via White Cap Pond and Dennison Bog. At the time I noted the road was plowed further south. On the DeLorme there is a gate on the road, east of the col between NKD and Whitecap. In former...

Beta on Whitecap and North Kennebago Divide

I have been told that the road toward the col between NKD and Whitecap is driveable with a passenger car, and plowed to within 1/2 mile of the col. Can anyone else confirm that is so? Anyone have info whether Wiggle Brook Road is plowed and driveable to the vicinity of Cupsuptic Snow? Thanks...

The Weeks via York Pond & Kilkenny Ridge Trails 1/27/08

ApexAl, Anita FR, HikerDoc and I did these 3 peaks (actually 5 peaks total, since it was out-and-back) yesterday in single-digit temps. YP trail and KR trails were sort of broken out by a skier as far as the summit of North Weeks, but not much help for us snowshoers. After that it was...

NE Cannonball via Lonesome Lake & Kinsman Ridge

Trail of course well packed to the lake, and good base beyond to jct. with Kinsman Ridge. Thereafter some powdery snow but good base, good grip to summit of NE Cannonball. We used snowshoes the whole way, and kept the trail nice and packed. #76W for me.

Thanks to three hikers ahead of us, including Al from Montreal, who broke out the trail for our group of 7. Snowshoes definitely required.

Goose Eye via Goose Eye Trail

Goose Eye via Goose Eye Trail 1/6/08 Success Pond Road open and plowed well. We shoveled out parking space for 2 vehicles. Thanks to Mohamed's group 1 week ago for breaking out the trail and providing a nice base to the 6-8 inches of new snow. The trail is now broken out again and is like a...

    Success Pond Road Status?

Thanks and Congratulations! Thanks for the info; it sounds as if they are logging in there this winter, so if we can time it right, we should be able to get to the Goose Eye TH. Good work in bagging the peak. The stream crossings may be even dicier this coming weekend with the forecast high...

Goose Eye via Success Pond Road 1/6/08 I am leading a Goose Eye hike on Sunday Jan 8, but only if we can get in via Success Pond Road. Otherwise we will hike something else. Interested to hear if Mohamed hiked this peak this weekend. DocRoss

Bushwhack to Flat Mountain (Sandwich area)

Bagged Flat Mountain today DRitter, Fred Shirley and I bagged this peak via the route recommended by the majority of our consultants, via Flat Pond. We started the whack at the midpoint of the pond, and it was a straight shot at 000 magnetic for 1.0 mile to the flat summit. The bottle is at...

Bushwhack to Flat Mountain (Sandwich area)

Anybody have suggestions for a bushwhack route to Flat Mountain, in the Sandwich Dome area. One way is Drakes Brook to Fletcher Cascade trail, but I have been told that there is a swampy/boggy area that is difficult/impossible to circumvent. Another way is to hike all the way to Flat Mt. Ponds...
